Pastry Chef — From The Well

Position Overview

From The Well is seeking a Pastry Chef to lead our naturally leavened bakery and pastry program. This role oversees daily bread and pastry production, bakery systems, product quality, and team leadership while helping shape the continued growth of the bakery. This is a highly hands-on leadership role within a small, intentional, and evolving bakery environment where nearly everything is made by hand. We are looking for someone who values craftsmanship, thoughtful process, hospitality, and building strong systems within a lean and collaborative team structure. The Pastry Chef will work closely with culinary leadership while independently owning the day-to-day execution and direction of the bakery. This role is ideal for someone excited by the opportunity to help shape and grow a young bakery program from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily production of naturally leavened breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, & seasonal offerings

  • Oversee sourdough fermentation, dough management, mixing, shaping, proofing, and baking

  • Maintain consistency, quality, organization, and cleanliness across the bakery program

  • Train and mentor bakery staff on production standards, workflow, and technique

  • Help establish systems that support efficiency, accountability, and long-term growth

  • Assist in developing seasonal bread and pastry offerings

  • Monitor freshness, ingredient usage, and overall product quality

  • Ensure bakery operations remain aligned with the mission and standards of From The Well

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional bakery or pastry experience preferred

  • Strong experience with naturally leavened bread production and dough handling

  • Experience in artisan or handcrafted bakery environments preferred

  • Leadership experience within a kitchen or bakery setting preferred

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Passion for hospitality, craftsmanship, and team leadership

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $55,000–$65,000 annually depending on experience and leadership level

  • One week paid vacation
